| D-Link camera use for Northcam. |
The North field camera is a D-link DCS-1000W wireless network camera.
In order to get a closer view of Lake Charlevoix, it is equipped with Cosmicar CCTV lens using a C/CS adapter ring to fit the camera body. The lens
provides a substantial zoom factor but the camera does not receive as much
light to the sensor so images can be darker in low light (dawn and dusk) conditions. The camera is
outside under a large spruce tree. It is housed in a homemade enclosure made of 4” PVC pipe. AC
power is supplied by an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) so momentary power bumps don't affect
camera operation. The camera is like most network cameras in that it has
built in software that will upload images to the net without a computer. That internal software is used to generate the images in the
24 hour review page.
The camera software does not allow inserting date or time information. The camera is supported by other popular webcam software (such as
Kabcam) that does allow date and time overlays on the image.
The remote sensor for the Lacrosse weather station is mounted on this camera enclosure support as well.
